New location, old greatness
Retrospective of the 22nd ISC, International Sealing Conference Stuttgart 2024
The 22nd International Sealing Conference (ISC) was held in Leinfelden-Echterdingen on 1 and 2 October 2024 under the motto "Sealing Technology - Challegenes accepted!" and was organised by the Fluid Power Association of the VDMA e.V. and its Fluid Seals Working Group.
Since the conference was held in Stuttgart, it was the first time that it did not take place at the University of Stuttgart. The Filderhalle in Leinfelden-Echterdingen opened its doors to around 200 experts from the sealing industry. The high proportion of approximately one third of international guests shows that the ISC was able to confirm its status as a globally important conference for sealing technology.
On the evening before the conference, the IMA welcomed the first guests on a tour of its laboratories and experimental set-ups. At a get-together afterwards, the participants were able to explore research at the IMA in even greater depth.
The 46 technical presentations provided an interesting overview of the many facets of sealing technologies. In particular, current trends in science and technology and their need for state-of-the-art seals were highlighted. For the first time, the topics of hydrogen and additive manufacturing were addressed in separate sessions. The lectures provided material for further discussions and stimulating talks, which were continued during the breaks.

Another highlight of the conference was the evening event at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. After an initial champagne reception the guests were welcomed in the large ballroom of the Filderhalle. With drinks and dinner the setting offered an atmosphere for informal conversations, getting to know each other and the opportunity to maintain old contacts.
After the dinner the guests got the opportunity to participate in different game in the mobile casino that was set up. Experienced gamblers and newcomers alike were able to put their luck to the test with games such as blackjack, roulette and chuck-a-luck.
